Gorka sol je magnezijev sulfat heptahidrat poznat još i pod nazivom epsomit odnosno epsomska sol prema engleskom gradu Epsonu u kojem je prvi puta destilirana iz vode.

Koristi se kao kozmetički proizvod, najčešće za kupke, ali svoju primjenu nalazi i u medicini, posebno kod probavnih problema.

Kako djeluje gorka sol?

Gorka sol ima laksativna svojstva, odnosno potiče vodu u probavi, zbog čega se koristi za čišćenje probavnih putova te protiv zatvora stolice. Magnezij povlači tekućinu u crijeva, što omekšava stolicu te izaziva grčenje pa tako i rad stolice.

S obzirom na to da je riječ o magnezijevom sulfatu, gorka sol se preporučuje svima s deficitom magnezija. Osobe koje pate od manjka magnezija mogu osjećati generalnu slabost, bolove i grčeve u mišićima te nistagmus, odnosno nekontrolirano treperenje oka.
